Les Samoa (Samoa allemandes de 1900 à 1914, Samoa occidentales jusqu'en 1997) est un État indépendant de Polynésie, comprenant quatre îles habitées et cinq îlots inhabités, dans le sud de l'océan Pacifique. Cet état constitue la partie occidentale de l'archipel des Samoa, la partie orientale étant sous administration américaine : le changement de nom en juillet 1997 (et la disparition du nom samoan de I Sisifo, c’est-à-dire « occidentales », « au couchant ») manifeste la volonté de voir un jour l'archipel entier réuni.
Les Samoans constituent, par ordre d'importance, la deuxième population polynésienne après les Maoris de la Nouvelle-Zélande.
